Podcast 274: 2022 Appetizer Draft
2022-06-23 Off By Chris FrancisIt is the 2022 NBA Draft eve, and you know what that means, CtB’s Draft Appetizer season! Nate Smith, Eli Kim, and Chris Francis serve up a mighty helping of draft and trade slop to satisfy the basketball hunger (h/t to friend of the podcast TrillBroDude of You Know Ball Podcast for the term “slop”). There’s a quick rundown of biggest stories hitting the media sphere, breaking news mid-episode, an appetizer draft (yes that’s right), and last but not least a CtB Annual Mock Draft that leaves Nate and Eli so puzzled and confused that it could drive you throw your appetizer dish at the wall (Disclaimer: CtB is not liable for any damages resulting from their podcast)
So grab a fork, pull up to the trough, and dig in….

Good podcast.
Use of skins in the picture made me hungry.
I’m not as high on Murray as you guys. A bunch of picks plus Big Finnish?
Pass.
With Nate on Dieng. Hard pass.
Agbagi is my guy.
just posted an open thread for tonight, join in when action starts!
HaHa: From the intro to Sam Smith’s “Final Mock”: Let’s look at a few drafts where the players now should be in the primes of their careers: 2013. None of the top nine guys selected is an NBA starter today. The best players were selected at Nos. 15 and 27. 2014: Basically half the top 10 picks are either out of the NBA or barely hanging on. Joel Embiid was No. 3 and Julius Randle No. 7. But Zach LaVine was No. 13 and Jokic was No 41. 2015: Karl-Anthony Towns took awhile, but is worthy of No. 1. The… Read more »
nice raoul bro.. most owners should just fire their FO (who are mostly frauds and parasites), and just let the mock draft consensus picks determine who goes where.. smart organizations like GS would be free to opt out of the rides to school in the short bus (for the developmentally disabled).
Hope Nets fans are enjoying the Kyrie era. Just wondering which franchise is next on Kyrie’s hit list.
do the Cavs have room for four more guys?
hopefully they have a trade in the works of you know who and the other you know who for some future first rounders.
wish we had beat the Lakers to getting #35 for a way future second and a pile of cash
So, 14, 39, 49, and 59?
The feel I get is that Altman wants to take a big swing (Dieng, Daniels, Sharpe) more than take a high floor guy (Agbaji). Dieng is likely the inly one in our range, Sharpe/Daniels might drop to 9 or 10.
Also, keep in mind, if Sexton is staying, a SF size (or SG size)guy who can act as a playmaker helps Sexton lineups make sense. And we have a lot of guys already who are SGs (Sexton, LeVert, Okoro, Osman, Windler).
Whether we package picks/players to move up, I would be OK with it. Ideally, we need to come out of draft/FA with:
1. More shooting
2. 2 guys who can run the offense/playmake
3. A backup C
4. A 2 way combo forward with length.
i am with nate on dieng.. i don’t see it.. at all.. not a molecule
Just listened to the pod. Roddy is a good call at 39, if he’s there. My pick there would be Gabriele Procida. 6’7”, athletic , and can can really shoot the three, and, just as importantly, he’s not shy about shooting it.
Congrats on the move, Nate. I know you really like the area up there, as do I.
With you on Procida.
stephen a going off on the queen bitch himself (kyrie).. on espn.. re double dares.. the tirade is a thing of beauty..
good to see stephen know what he is talking about for a change!
spurs chose both d murray and k johnson (21 ppg and 17 ppg, respectively) at #29.. also picked derrick white at #29.. there is gold late in the draft (assuming your front office has any intelligence)..
Tony Parker was 30, I believe.
Sounds like the Cavs may try to bundle some 2nds to move up…

Hell yeah, I’m in favor of it!
i am liking the mack truck from colorado at 39.. nice.. or the dukie.. good job bros.. here’s hoping koby is reading.. i have more faith in you guys than in him.. brother eli is an impressive hoops analyst..
Thanks Buck!
brother eli makes great points on branham.. between ochai and branham looks like koby has options that he should be able handle..
Gonna listen to the pod right now, but would ask all CtBers to take a moment and think of the ultimate goal as you discuss player potential and fit.
Better yet, just read this CtB thread from bottom to top:

That’s right Simmo!! 16 Game Players only!!!!
a re-post from a lete-nighter on prior thread.. raoul thought it made some sense.. this jerami grant trade piqued my interest so i looked at his stats.. rather surprised.. been in the league 9 years.. first 6 years he averages 6.3.. no third year ramp with this bother.. just a flatline.. finally, his third year in okc he gets into low double digits.. then he goes to denver for a year and regresses a bit.. then on to detroit where he grows up in his 8th year as a pro at 26 yrs old.. now he is a franchise saver… Read more »
still do.
lots of times, the best players are already better than anyone when they are young. but not always.
also, usually raw talent trumps maturity. but not always.
Braced for impact. I’m getting the vibe the Cavs will take Dieng if he’s on the board. I don’t disagree with Nate’s assessment.
yeah, this is my biggest fear.
no johnny davis in top 14 ? i think mathurin goes much higher..
that mock draft visual suits me fine…we get playmaker and shooter….done and done…all in one pick
Nice! They were expecting Jalen Williams LMFAOO
