Live Thread: Jazz @ Cavs

The Cavs welcome the Utah Jazz (AKA Cavs West) to the shores of Lake Erie in a highly anticipated matchup between two teams that executed the biggest blockbuster trade of the offseason. Both teams will missing key pieces including the hated Kelly Olynyk (NEVER FORGET), Collin “Young Bull” Sexton, Dean Wade, and Lamar Stevens.
As far as the game on the court, this will be a clash between a top five offense (Jazz) and the best defense in the NBA (Cavs). The Cavs will have to exploit the Jazz’s shaky defense (25th in defensive efficiency in the NBA) if they want to come out with the win tonight.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio/Great Lakes, GO CAVS!

Korver was Rip Hamilton level fit. I havent watch Merrill but he is also shorter than Kyle and would have to play PG or SG. My dream bench mob is him at the 1 with caris at the 2 and caris initiating with him running off picks
I keep forgetting Rubio is yet to come back. Smallball with rubio at 1, Merrill at 2, Caris at 3, Okoro at 4, Mobley at 5?? Could be a really wonky lineup to defend. This is probably grass is greener thinking as we are 21-11 but the ceiling for his team could be so effing high
wonky lineups can be a plus if you are down and nothing is working.
Aitoo who thinks every Rolo minute should be going to Diakite? And probably a couple of Love’s mins too? We might have a genuine rotation player on our hands already and we wont find out for 2 years if JB remains at the helm.
Diakite is a 3-4. Love is a 4-5. RoLo is a 5.
You can get away with some Diakite mins as a small-ball 5, but not against teams with actual Cs (Embiid, Jokic, Adams, Valacuinas, even Davis). That is where RoLo is needed. And then usually only if ine of Mobes/JA is out or in foul trouble.
Plus, Diakite is still a two-way. I think we want that roster spot open if a favorable trade comes our way. And we also want to use as much time to evaluate/make decisions on LeVert/Love and also Cedi/Windler/Stevens.
small ball 5: Diakite is a couple inches shorter than Love, but a lot younger, faster, and more athletic.
Jason did I say 40 mins for Diakite? Rolo doesnt deserve any regular mins. In sorry he just doesnt. You know what happens on the other end when we are facing big guys like Embiid and and Valancuinas on offense when rolo is playing? They got to rest. He is a non threat in any mobile way and barely a threat to hit a hook shot. In not saying play diakite like mobley or allen. I don’t think Rolo can play in a meaningful game at this point. He’s only usable in garbage time or for short stints against teams that aren’t trying. So, yeah, the hope that he would be an upgrade at the backup 5 position isn’t happening right now. The main issue is he is so slow on D that he almost never gets to use his shot blocking. But it’s a long season, so maybe he’ll be playing better at the end of it. It’s interesting that his twin brother is so much better and mobile.

Why the heck is Sam Merrill not getting spot mins if he can put up numbers like that from deep? He is 26 not 20! I suppose if Neto cant get mins how the heck would he? Is there a way we can have JB win an all expense paid vacation for a week while someone else handles the minutes? We have almost no consistent spot up shooter outside klove when healthy

If Elder Mobley can turn himself into an NBA player, that would be huge. Frontcourt shooting is a weakness. Diakite would help as well.
I just think let them develop for a bit and then see where we are after the trade deadline.
21 turnovers and giving up 15 offensive rebounds resulted in the Jazz getting 22 more field goal attempts than we did. It’s a good thing we shot at such a high percentage. Other than that, it was a complete game, and it’s great to see DM and DG getting some rest late.
It will be big if we can get Stevens back for tomorrow’s game against the Bucks. I’m not sure what the plan will be on Greek Freak without him.
We should just stick Mobley on him. Or JA. Put the other on Lopez.

Ice & Mobes less prolific, 8-14 and 1-5 from deep, but still 24 points on 14 shots. Not bad for your 6th and 7th most efficient guys on the night.
