Live Thread: Trail Blazers @ Cavs
2023-11-30Good evening CtB!
The Cavs welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to the shores of Lake Erie as the Cavs look to sweep the season series against their Western Conference opponent. The Cavs recent hot streak was keyed by a victory over the Blazers in Portland two weeks ago 109-95. After a rocky start to the season, things have stabilized for the Cavs and now’s the time to establish themselves as a top six seed in the Eastern Conference as they barrel into the winter season.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
Podcap up
JB owes me a personal apology fwiw
Why is that?
Finally, after months of being the last man on JB Island, he’s forced me off of it. I need back pay for them months
Oofff glad i missed most of this one. This season has not been fun. Too inconsistent. And what happened to all star Darius Garland?!? He is still good but he is not an ascending star. I think USAB was right to leave him off the squad

Niang fighting man. Love has hoed up plenty of time under pressure, the last guy to leave has always been the solution for a certain segment of the fan base (we need Love! Lauri! sexton! etc…)
Players are the problem but if graybeard Kevin Love is the answer we were never gonna be good.
I object to needing Sexton.
I think I’m just saying there’s a segment of the fan base constantly fighting the last war and / or for confirmation of their priors rather than being realistic about the incredible collection of talent and skill we have two years removed from lottery
yeah. don’t think Nate went that far
Yeah you right. I just like Niang bc he clearly gives a shit
Dave Joerger, you’re up!
Really?
I’m speculating based on the Tweet you posted.
Yeah think that’s the plan. Feels like replacing mid with mid but fuck it.
Wasn’t he already hired by the team as a consultant?
Yeah, the Blatt special of packing the staff with potential HCs
JB didn’t make these guys shoot like dog shit from 3 but firing the coach is the lowest risk shakeup. I’m not really for it bc it’s on the players to play better but there’s a point where “do something” fever takes over and firing the coach beats the shit out of a panic trade
They may need to do both, but not necessarily a panic trade, but a trade. I don’t think anything is happening with either coach or players.
I don’t like to trade the core 4, they have each had such high highs. It might truly just be game plan and whose turn it is to go off. Like Mobley didn’t touch the ball in the 4th where he should really have it every possession out of the short roll
Issues are basically all internal “figure it out” issues. Maybe this is the punch you have to take on the way to greatness. God knows the Celtics and Bucks and Heat have gotten their teeth kicked in on the way to developing toughness
Orlando is young, this Cavs team doesn’t feel young, tired definitely, disinterested definitely looks like it, poorly coached and constructed, absolutely
Give Orlando a year-plus of real expectations and we’ll see. Memphis felt young a year ago. Vibes change fast in the NBA.
Roster is well constructed imo. More hits than misses on talent and FA and trades by almost 2 to 1.
Agree with the comparison to Memphis and their fall off. But I do NOT think this roster is not constructed well at all. There is lots of talent but the pieces do not fit well together. Two undersized ball dominant guards, no big guys that can shoot, too many guys who are one way players (all defense or all offense), no big wings. No one move or player has really been a disaster, but this roster has too way many holes to really compete for anything.
Yeah if the talent isn’t working together, try firing the coach. I like the roster and it does a lot of cool things no other team can match (two switchy seven foot defenders, two elite one-man offense guards).
Wouldn’t trade it for big wings of lesser talent just to be a broke-ass version of the Clippers or whoever
Yeah JB goes before any trades happen. I really like JB, but if the team vibes start to sour he has to go. He is a coach that is better at the vibes/lockerroom stuff and once that goes south he isn’t a good enough x and o guy to keep around. I am just not sure a new coach can solve the issues with the roster.
No but the “solves” for the roster are dudes who are generally highly valued by the league and take loads of draft capital (price for OG was like 3 FRPS, and there’s a reason Niang commanded 3/24, which he probably would get from another contender too tbh).
We aren’t / weren’t getting big wing shooters pre- or post-Mitchell trade imo. So you let the young guys play until they get tired of being sonned, which is what happened with Giannis
Oh and you take flyers on plus athletes and long shooters with terrible bodies and big stiffs (CPJ, Okoro, Bates, Wade) in the interim
I thought I liked the roster, but so many are having way too few good days.
The good days just don’t sync right. Caris and CPJ disappeared while Niang is improved. Strus up, Okoro down. All boats not rising at once.
Whole much less than sum of the parts. Could just be a step back year while they figure out what it really takes to be good and tough as well as skilled.

Yeah this is the sort of loss that gets coaches fired. Feels like the beginning of the end for JB, unless we really turn it around before Xmas.
Welp, let’s see if the anybody but JB brigade is right. Prefer continuity and a better process to replace over panic but this is probably a loss to panic over if any.
Disappointing. Young team gets caught by trap game. Gotta cut turnovers and get in sync
When is the charade of JB being good enough to take this team to the next level going to end. This is a waste of time.
yup, he’s never coach a good offense his entire career.
But we’re gonna hire Joerger fhiefkdkdksk
Can you believe we pay Darius Garland $36 MILLION dollars for this?
This is who the Cavs are this year. They are a .500 team with big glaring holes that anyone could see before the start of the year. Their offense is stale, they do not rebound well at all, the coaching does not get the most out of the roster, and they do not have anyone on the roster that can play the SF role at a high level.
yup… accurate and succinct
They had the benefit of few major injuries last year. That helped. This year might not be so lucky.
Total garbage
Strus fed up and just fouled himself out of the game LMFAOOOOO he’s the only one that looks pissed about losing.
Worried about DG…
This loss is on JB, PLAY CPJ AND TT IF JA AND DG WANT TO SCREW AROUND
Just caught up with game. this is embarrassing.
That’ll do it – Cavs deserve this loss. Worst of the year.
