Live Thread: The Paris Game, Nets vs. Cavs

The Cavs have flown across the pond to the City of Light to take on the Brooklyn Nets in a special, nationally televised international affair. The Cavs are one of the hotter teams in the NBA while Nets look like a team that should be considering a fire sale to tank and accrue more assets to reset their franchise. This is a game the Cavs ought to win in order to establish themselves among the elite NBA teams. Doing so without two of their best players in Darius Garland and Evan Mobley bodes well for a second half season run that could put them in the conversation as a real contender coming out of the Eastern Conference. A sure way to continue the good vibes the Cavs have created would be to continue to exploit the talents of Sam “I Am” Merrill and Craig “The Real” Porter Jr. Both of them have helped boost the offense into the 21st century of the NBA. Coach JB, don’t screw it up!

Best bet for the Browns is to try to buy out Watson at maybe 60 or 80% of his salary. He is egotistical enough to think another team will pick him up and he will come out ahead.

Another sign that they’re managing the 50 appearances of CPJ — decided not to go to him with a big lead and instead gave a lot of extra minutes to Sam Merrill. Sam played a good scrappy game but lost his deadeye as his minutes piled up, Good win!

Turning to my CtB brethren for advice. comments that the game was ugly. Worth the replay?
Kind of more of the same. A lot of fun stuff from Allen and Mitchell, boatloads of 3s generated against a good defense but everyone bricky. For all the hype about the Nets wings all of them kind of sucked. Thomas was good-ish but he’s empty calories. It’s such a goofy roster. No one played super well except for Donovan but everyone contributed. No CPJ but Caris and Donovan had the PG duties well covered. Wire to wire double digit win, but only worth watching if you need another proof point that we are taking care of business and beating… Read more »
I just finished watching. So many good off-the-court vibes, I really enjoyed it. Cavs really missed Max Strus in the second half, but DM with some superstar plays, and Caris with timely shooting let them hold on.
Mitchell was special, worth it for that.
Good game. Cavs have been playing well. Next week will be a good test. Hope Strus is OK.
I talked Sam up before the game but he did not deliver. Seemed to be getting down on himself, hopefully he will recover soon. Awful decision to start 4q without CPJ, it was clear that the nets were making their run and we needed his calmness. I think Spida really wanted to have a big game and we needed it

I don’t get the CPJ DNP at all.
Maybe since he is a 2 way, they are trying to minimize the # of games he plays? Does it even work that way ir is it just games where he is WITH the team? Reaching for something.
Maybe it’s just matchups? Or DM and Caris were too good tonight?
Think JB trusts CPJ but just doesn’t feel compelled to play him if there’s no obvious advantage to playing him (or a rest reason).
I love him and like to see him play. his play is awesome relative to expectations but he’s just an above average backup PG and if other guys cook he might not see the floor.
