Live Thread: Cavs vs Bucks
2024-01-17Whelp. The Cavs play three of their next five games against the Bucks and the first tips off tonight. The good news for Cleveland: Giannis is out. A late game scratch, the Alphabet is clearly ducking the red hot Cleveland crew who’ve won 10 of their last 13 (against admittedly the softest part of their schedule).
Joining Giannis on IR, TyTy Washington and Jae Crowder, who’s still working his way back from hip adductor surgery. For Cleveland, Darius Garland is back to some practice and his jaw is no longer wired shut, but he’s not a go yet. Caris LeVert is a game time decision with a sore right wrist (I say let him sit and cue the CPJ music). Ty Jerome and Evan Mobley remain out.
The Cavs signed Cleveland Charge’s Pete Nance to a ten day contract, likely due to their need to get to the NBA roster minimum through the trade deadline, but I doubt that he gives them anything other than garbage time.
This will be the Cavs’ second chance to see Baby Dame Dolla in a Bucks uni, and from some of the comments this morning, Isaac relished the opportunity. I don’t actually have the comments, because it’s 15 minutes to tip and the artist formerly known as Twitter sucks, but trust me. Ice was relishing.

Missed this one live. Enjoyed the glorious mayhem on DVR. I think JA success due in part to being healthy, and in part to scheme that is being run now. If I recall correctly, main argument for trading was that offense cannot be effective w him and Evan on court (and hence in/near paint) at same time. I’m not convinced. Can one run current style w these two on court at same time?
Related, does it make sense to increase time when just one of DM/DG is on court?

less of DM+DG together is an excellent plan. right now the Cavs are playing their best ball since LBJ. I think EM will fit right into this style and they will be even better. fitting DG in is going to be harder.
DG played OK with CPJ. I think he has to just buy in and chuck/ play like Steph off ball, which he can definitely do.
But if it can work in playoffs it’s nasty. Having bigs who can handle helps: would love to see more 4-5 or 4-2 pick and roll with Garland and Strus spacing

Has allen been the difference during the recent good play and win streak? Ive been out of pocket and couldnt pay attention. Stat stuff has him crushing but is it him or better design or what? He was number one on people’s trade list like 2 weeks ago
the people wanting to trade JA for a washed up wing and a couple picks are clueless.
He’s just a skilled classic rim running 5. Always a place for dudes who get (and stop) the easiest buckets.
He played Brook (and Jokic) like he heard all the criticism, took it to his giant heart, and spent all off-season working on figuring out how to get the advantage against huge 5s

It’s not even the shooting of Sam / Strus / Niang (Strus % are atrocious but there’s a reason) it’s the gravity.
