Live Thread: Cavs @ Nets
2024-12-16Happy Monday, Cavs fans! The Cavs play only their second game of this 12 day stretch tonight with a stop in Brooklyn to face the Umlaut-less Nets. Dennis Schröder was traded to the Warriors this last weekend for three second round draft picks and De’Anthony Melton. Not bad for a guy the Nets grabbed off the free agent pool. The short-handed nets will also be without Ziaire Williams, Reece Beekman, Bojan Bogdanovich, and Cam Thomas.
Cleveland is getting some bodies back in the form of Evan Mobley listed as probable, while CPJ is questionable, and Jalen Tyson is out with the bug everyone’s been getting. Max Strus and Emoni Bates remain out as well. Expect the Cavs to cruise in this one with some lapses in focus coming up to bite them – but (and this is a Kyle Lowry sized “but”), the Nets are the kind of lanky wing heavy team that gives Cleveland trouble, so Mobley and Wade being healthy will be key. Hopefully the Cavs get a nice tune-up while waiting to take on a pooped Bucks squad on Friday. Go Cavs!

Not going to play violin music for LeBron, but it’s worth noting that because of nba salary structures he spent a good portion of his career not even being the highest paid player on the roster. He instantly sky rockets the value of any club he’s on. It sucks from a team fan perspective , but I’m never going to hold it against a player getting what they can.

I just read it. Seems thin to me. It assume Miami resets, which I don’t think is happening since they have Bam, Burks, Rozier along with Love if Butler gets traded. Much more likely Miami spins Butler into a win now piece and some picks. Also assumes a buyout which is tough if Love doesn’t want to give up money. Just seems like a lot of wishful thinking. But I guess Fedor knows these things better than I do.
Also, he’s a replacement level player at this point. Also, the Cavs are trying to get under the tax not go deeper. Someone has to go in this scenario. Next year seems more likely if Kev gets bought out or stretched.

Where is this rumor? It doesn’t make any sense from a contract standpoint. Kev is fully guaranteed this season and next at like a 7 mil total salary. So he’d either have to waive it or take a buyout and ask for a release or Miami would have to amnesty him or something. Cleveland isn’t picking him up at that salary when trying to squeeze under the tax. Also, he’s getting regular PT and has a second kid on the way . I doubt he wants to uproot any of that. Interested to hear the source here.

High for the team was 21 points and we scored 130 and held the opponent to 101. Granted the nets are going to finish with maybe 20 wins…but the balance was awesome.

Shot choice is off for him. He doesn’t do catch and shoot threes he does catch and forced way to fast threes. Caris/okoro have done the opposite. Cut down on fast twitch threes and made the extra pass when it isn’t there. Hopefully it’ll come. Sam on d has been soooooo much better this year
he’s trying to broaden into being a multi-tool NBA player. weirdly I would sell high on him — if you could ship him for a third big like a Nick Richards or some other center caught in a logjam I’d do it.
From what I’ve seen, he’s trying to release his shot too quickly. So many shots he appears to be slightly off balance, particularly when moving laterally toward the corner. His gravity is serious though, opposing players have their orders on not giving him a sniff so I understand why he tries to let it go early.
Agreed — guys are closing out hard on him, and either he relocates and loses his target, or he rushes.
Sam basically becomes a depth piece with Strus back. Just so hard to play 11-12 guys.
But guys lose their mind closing out on him, so that’s worth some time in ways that finding time for Tyson or Thor or CPJ isn’t. You know Sam will have a bit of impact.
