Live Thread: Cavs @ Pacers
2025-12-01Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have traversed to the Hoosier State to take on Central Division rival Indiana Pacers in what is an important game for the good guys. They are on a three game losing streak and need a win, especially when taking on a stealth tank team in the Pacers. The Cavs will be missing about a half dozen players tonight on a SEGABABA, which could be construed as an indication they’re still sandbagging until the new year. It is a dangerous game they’re playing however with some angst expressed by Jaylon Tyson last night regarding how the team (namely the starters outside of Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley according to the stats) aren’t pulling their weight.
Can De’Andre Hunter find his preseason form after losing it to a knee injury? Can Nae’Qwan Tomlin and Craig Porter Jr. get the 30 minutes per game they’ve earned through playing gritty defense? Can Tyrese Proctor stay on the upswing after a rough start to the season? Will Coach Kenny Atkinson unleash more Thomas Bryant since he’s the only big willing to start a brawl on defense? Stay tuned…
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will broadcasted live on Fanduel Sports Network, Go Cavs!

Garland stinks right now. Healthy enough to play but not to perform well, and apart from a fun quarter is really protecting himself. His presence is helping the offense a ton but to be effective in the new defensive scheme he needs to get deflections and jump passing lanes and I don’t think he trusts his burst and body enough to make those plays yet. He has to get into game shape and rhythm, how to be effective through the discomfort, and the other guys need to get used to playing with him. If more rest would help his medium… Read more »
Eh. You’re not going to come back in two games. He’s gotta get his rhythm, and his J looks good. The offense isn’t the issue as much as the d where teams are hunting him. You also can’t pair him with the Association’s laziest help defender in Hunter. All you gotta do is put those two in action and they’re cooked. Hopefully Hunter picks it up, but they should never be in the same lineups for now.
AGREED TYSON HAS EARNED THE STARTING SPOT— DRE MORE SUITED AS 6th MAN / MORE OPTION s WITH HIM COMING OFF THE BENCH
Lotta love for Tyson by the Pacers commentary team. Hard not to notice him at the moment. I’m sure he’ll have some flat spots as the season progresses, but it’s pretty cool to see him taking the opportunity.
Once Allen is back, I’d be for starting Tyson over Hunter.
I think he’s just better. Let Hunter and Mobley and Strus anchor the bench units (and close with whatever matchups dictate) but Tyson can’t be kept off the floor and has earned a spot.
SHOULD WE “ REVISIT “ THE D HUNTER TRADE WHEN WE ( ALMOST ALL OF US ) APPLAUDED THE TRADE ?????
Including the consistent, widespread love shared for one Georges Niang?
Lol yeah he was so hated
Yeah, I don’t miss Niang (who hasn’t played at all for Utah this season, what happened with him?). And I was all-in on getting Hunter. But, if you somehow could have known last February that Garland would be severely limited by an injury throughout the playoff run and would still be significantly impacted by it this season, you’d likely conclude keeping Caris was a better fit then adding Hunter since he was a serviceable on-ball creator/distributor who excelled at dribble-driving to the lane. Caris was playing like crap at that moment, though.
The games where we have no effort or continuity on offense would be helped by Niang, who is such a good connector and shooter.
Mobley’s offensive development would also be helped by an elite catch and shoot guy to play pick and roll with.
agree we mostly liked the potential upside of the Hunter deal. but it was a bit of a flyer, because we knew at the time he was a major disappointment so far. now we see why. guys like Hunter with a long record of underperforming are a long shot: sometimes they get their shit together and have a nice late career, usually not. one thing that should help is putting him on the second string — some players are natural second string stars. I think Hunter is signed for one more year? the Cavs need to find a role where… Read more »
No not at all, Hunter is fine if overpaid… DG is the real turd in the punch bowl right now. Zero defense and now zero offense with a bunch of turnovers.
