The Cavs travel south to the Lone Star State to take on Western Conference titan Houston Rockets for a classic measuring stick game. The Cavs are 2-10 against top 10 teams in the NBA this season according to Cleaning the Glass, and two (Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen) of their core four under-performing to varying degrees are the main reason why. Will they finally show up against some of the best of the West? Stay tuned…

Someone had a good comment on another blog about Merrill guarding Durant – why are you settling for that awful mismatch when you have the DPOY on your team? Like what is the point of Mobley if you don’t plan for him to do what he does best? Seems like both FO and HC are confused lately.
And Kenny was quoted recently talking about the importance of rebounding and the need to prioritize it, but his rotation choices aren’t matching his words.
Mobley is on a minutes restriction due to calf injury, and thus couldn’t play a lot in both the NYK and HR games. Playing him a lot in the NYK game made sense on a lot of levels, and they weren’t likely to beat the HR without devine intravention.
Yeah, that makes sense about Mobley. But other options were available. Wade is 6’9, and a guy that JB used to lean on to guard Tatum. What about Jarrett (if Bryant had played heavier minutes, freeing up Jarrett for perimeter D switches)? How do you end up with Merrill and Hunter largely taking this assignment?
We stink.

You’re exactly right…….I remember Koby 2 yrs ago saying basically “we’re not changing anything except around the edges of the rotation “ and I just thought that was a little optimistic.i thought it was fair to consider options and listen to offers if they come up.The time to make changes was then,they’re screwed now.Garland is who he is,great ,but limited (crazy contract)and Mobleys great at what he’s great at ,but not taking over the game on offense….so they are who they are at this point.

DG -27 in 22 minutes, Hunter -24 in 16 minutes… you can’t put up numbers like these without being completely unplayable.
Minus 23 in rebounding…the two you mentioned are issues, but who impacts the rebounding disparity?
Garland had zero rebounds, Hunter had 1… so I’d say they themselves are indicative of the problems rebounding.
DG and Merrill are two of the worst defensive rebounders in the NBA. Kenny Atkinson chose to start both today against one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA.
The reason why we suck at rebounding is literally no outside of Tower City are good rebounders, the next two best are Lonzo Ball and CPJ, and this problem is compounded by dogshit rotations by Atkinson.
Tyson had 14 of the 44 rebounds tonight. He also played the most minutes (by far) of anyone not named Donovan, and led the team in scoring (by far).
He should be starting — simple as that.
And it’s DG that should be benched for Tyson, but most are too dense to figure this out.
And actually I read the chart wrong, Bryant/Wade/Tyson/CPJ are our best rebounders outside of Tower city in that order
Right – Tyson is definitely the best rebounder of the guards and wings on this roster (counting Wade as a 4/5 rather than a 3/4), although Strus when healthy might be his equal or better.
Tomlin has shown a propensity for it in his first year and g league time. He certainly deserves a chance.
I don’t understand the severely limited willingness to play CPJ this year (except when Garland was out), just like I never understood the limited willingness to work Tyson fully into the rotation last year when Strus was out. And CPJ’’s not remotely a rookie.
CPJ getting the shaft since DG came back, and Kenny hates good defense.
