Live Thread: Cavs vs Suns
2025-12-31Merry New Year, Cavs fans! This afternoon we say goodbye to the winter of our discontent, the 2025 Cavaliers, and say hello to the tenth anniversary of the greatest championship in North American pro sports history. Hopefully the positive vibes from the anniversary permeate the Cavs locker room and we see more games like the surprising showing against the Spurs, Friday.
Jarrett Allen was a force that game with 27 points and 11 rebounds; De’Andre Hunter has his best minutes in a Cavalier uniform playing the four; and Donovan Mitchell sealed the deal not with his scoring but with his floor game (10/2/7, +15, and three steals). We’ll see if the winning ways continue against the Suns who are without Jalen Green and Grayson Allen. The Cavs will be missing Larry Nance Jr., and Max Strus (who currently has no timetable for return). Don’t know what to make of this Cavs squad, so I’m not making a prediction other than to say Go Cavs!

Enjoyed this one. Well-balanced in terms of scoring, rebounding, scrapping, even before blowout ending. Contributions from Sam, Jalen, CPJ, as well as core four. Booker eventually got his, but was scoreless midway through the second. Dillon Brooks is still a punk. Re JA, I think there is a bit of an analogy to LeBron/Big Z. Toward the end of their time together, the first play or two was often LeBron as pt guard feeding Z in the paint. Everyone knew it, but (a) Z often scored, and more importantly, (b) Z was more engaged on both ends for the game.… Read more »

Cavs adjusting to physicality and then overwhelming it is an excellent sign going forward. You might have to pull Sam or DG or DM at times if they are reckless or getting shot over but Tyson / Max at 2/3 are OK.
Allen and Tomlin trying to dunk everything ruled. Nice nice job by Kenny and Porter to feed Allen in the beginning of the second quarter…Allen isn’t taking away shots from better players in those lineups and he has a ton of room to operate.
