Live Thread: Celtics @ Cavs
2026-03-08Good afternoon CtB!
The Cavs welcome the Boston Celtics to the sunny banks of the Cuyahoga River for a prime-time, national TV NBA showcase between two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. The Celtics just got back their All-NBA wing Jayson Tatum and the Cavs are welcoming back Donovan Mitchell and Celtics-killer Dean Wade from injury. This should be a good one, enjoy the show!
Tip off is scheduled for 1:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live nationally on ABC, go Cavs!

INTERESTED ACTUALLY IN BOTH GAMESββ SEE OUR IMMEDIATE RESPONSEββ SEE HOW WE ACTUALLY STACK UP AGAINST A PLAYOFF NEMISISβββ- FEEL s GREAT TO BE HOME πππ
Strus to G League
WILL SEE HOW CAVS RESPOND TONIGHTββ- HUNGRY OR HANGOVERβββ GETTING DISCHARGED FROM HOSPITAL IN THE NEXT HR ππππππππβ¦β¦β¦β¦β¦.. β MORE BEER πΊ PLEASE β π€ͺ
yup, they better respond with a not-even-close win.
Iβm more interested in Orlando Wednesday tbh
For the record, I think we can beat anyone except OKC and Boston. But we are not close to either.
And we poop the bed too often in big times games. And at crunch time.
agree Cavs are probably #3 this year. they will need to be playing good and get a little luck to win it.
That was always the case with OKC and a full strength Boston!
But thereβs also nothing wrong with 3 when you donβt have a top ten player either.
agree
Worth the replay, or was it a poopshow?
To me, fairly pooptastic, though there are a few segments that were good. Watch first five minutes and then jump to second half if you are curious.
Kind of infuriating, tbh.
Between this one and the OKC game, I think OKC was better – both objectively, and to watch – bc they righted the ship more quickly, and fought back hard enough that they nearly took or did take the lead briefly.
FTS COMES ACROSS MORE POSITIVEββ THINK IF JA PLAYS HE GOES 25/ 12 ββ OFFERS BACKSIDE DEFENSE HELPβ-STRUS ADD s A DIFFERENT DIMENSIONββ NEED β CONSISTENT β SCHROEDERβ- NEED TO GIVE MINUTES TO BRYANT βββ- NYQUIL / LNJ / NOT THE ANSWERββNEED ELLIS β NOT β TO BE ANOTHER ICE β-BE SOMEWHAT OF A THREATββ 18 GAMEs STILL TIME TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT THE CLOCK IS TICKINGβ- GO CAVS
For now, Cavs are to Boston as the Pistons are to the Cavs. Thereβs still time to change the narrative though.
Let’s hope so. And I’m okay with the good guys being written off by national talking heads…
well, that was lousy. we’ll see how it goes in the playoffs.
CAVS STARTED STRONG 1st / 5 MINUTESββ- CELTICS CALL A TO / MADE ADJUSTMENTSβ-GAME WASNT CLOSE AFTER THAT ββ SO DO WE POINT AT COACHING ADJUSTMENTS MADE OR NOT MADE
Nah. Went 1-22 for a ten minute stretch. Canβt coach the ball into the basket. Youβd like Harden to attack the rim more, but we just were out of rhythm offensively.
Lots of excuses but none of them really explain this. It is just ownership. Cavs will be underdogs against Boston. Beneficial to settle into 4th slot?
DOES JA MAKE SOME DIFFERENCEββ BEEN DOZIING OFF ( pain meds ) OR IS THIS WHO WE ARE ββ GIMME SOME OPTIMISMβ- CELTICS COULD CATCH THE PISTONSββ- NYQUIL NOW A β NO SHOW βββ 18 GAMES TO FIGURE OUT WHO CAN / WILL PLAY
Harden and Mitchell are usually better. They wonβt be hurt in May (hopefully).
Mobley and Mitchell were good but generally kill Boston. Allenβs screening and post / roll game should also thrive against Boston and get Harden better shots too.
The Chase Down podcast guys note that we miss Allenβs violent downhill play (and the threat of the lob open Hardenβs floater the way it helped DG)
Who’s kidding who? This game was over after 6-7 minutes. Hopefully, JA can make the difference down the road.
Too much weak on-ball defense has led to too much helping.
Too much helping has led to too many open threes.
Today, the Celtics had four of the six best players on the floor. Can the Cavs change that by the time the playoffs come, or is this who we are?
SchrΓΆder just make the easy pass.
Well thereβs that, and thereβs the time he went up for a shot when unexpectedly left wide open 8 feet from the rim, but then changed his mind to pass when he was on his way βdown.β Dude, just take the damn easy 2!
Jaylen Brown shredding the Cavs on offense.
Nah. That was bullshit. Queta in the paint like half that possession and Brown at least three
I meant throughout the whole game. He dominated Wade (not blaming him). Ellis couldnβt stop him. He completely broke down our defense.
Mobley fell asleep on that baseline pass.
13. I agree with RJ. Gotta build this into something positive even if it ends up being a loss.
Cavs starting to fall into the mental trap again, settling for too many early 3βs.
Celtics just so much more focused.
Much different (better) energy at both ends of the court to start the Q3. But taking off a quarter and a half before you get going is not the way. Kind of similar to the start against OKC although was a rash of TOs rather than chucking up off-rhythm shots. Still a game though (down 12 early Q3).
We are not serious contenders.
A bunch of bedwetters except for Mitchell & Mobley.
FELL ASLEEPβ- π€β GLAD I DIDβ- JA ADDS A DIFFERENT DIMENSION ON BOTH ENDSββ EVERY CELTIC PLAYER CAN NAIL THE 3 π€¬
Yeah, not having Jarrett hurts on the offensive end against this team, but no excuses for scoring, what was it, 35 in the half?
Pitiful display of basketball. Role players rolling over and playing dead, no creating, poor defense. Men against boys. So frustrating.
Love that RJ trotted out the “one o’clock start” defense. Boston started the same time, no?
Legs with a better explanation: two of the top five three-point hoisting teams; one is making them (37%), one is not (9%). The FG (40% vs. 29%) and FT (94% vs. 67%) splits explain the twenty-point deficit as well.
No Allen? Would be nice to have a second tower in there at times….but this is a team loss right now.
4 days rest.practice,preparationβ¦..thoroughly got handled.
To your point about role players – the one thing the Cavs had going early was Mobley both inside and out. So of course, when he re-entered the game after his first rest, the Celts starting doubling him on every touch in the post. And when that happened, I didnβt any Cavs aggressively cutting to a position to give him an outlet option.
Stop with the pull ups in transition
Finally, Spida breaks the lid open with a floater.
No one can hit anything, from anywhere, in the second quarter. Wow! Celtsβ defense is good but this is more the Cavs just missing everything. Itβs in their heads right now (I say that bc multiple shots were left short by multiple shooters)
Oof. Cavs in afternoon games.
Seriously!!!
These guys needef more coffee.
We need offensive production from more than a couple of players to succeed in big games. Don’t know who can step up, but no one has yet.
Mitchell missed Tyson on the short roll which screwed up the shot clock.
C’s already have 3 bs free throw trips. This one and then two others where the foul should have been on the floor
Slow pace so far.
His 3-pt shot looks better since returning from the injury layoff, not so flat. And itβs going in at a good clip.
Mobley letting em know!
GOT MY β HOSPITAL β RING SIDE SEAT β- GO CAVS!!! ββ GOOD START ππ
Letβs go Cavs!
