2026-10-24Can the Cavs overcome their five month hangover? Thursday, after leading by 24 at halftime, and by as much as 29, the Cavs collapsed yet again. The Sixers imposed their wil on the defensive perimeter, Peyton Watson, James Harden, and Spida Mitchell combined for 16 turnovers, and the meltdown was on.
Cleveland has yet to develop an effective backup ball handler, Kenny still refuses to call time outs to stop runs, and the Cavs don’t have an answer when teams pack the paint other than chucking. One has to wonder if Cleveland won Thursday “analytically.”
Fast forward to tonight. I have a feeling Brooklyn will be more feisty than expected. Good coach, Julius Randle with something to prove, and a Cavs team that can’t take a punch. One has to hope the wine and gold will pick themselves off the mat and start to change the narrative, but it feels like the players who should be leading this team aren’t being empowered to do so. So it feels like everyone is looking around for a leader instead of being a leader.
The Cavs should still win this one, but the stink of the Eastern Conference Finals and the Opening Night collapse still lingers. We’ll see how the team adjusts. Some part of me is rooting against it, just to force the team to jettison Atkinson. I’m sure I’ll get caught up in the moment, though. Go Cavs.

Nate, you couldn’t have been more prescient. I will never root against my own team, but I do get the desire to see another human run this team differently. KA was such a welcome change from JBJr., but the dust has settled andit is clear this team lacks something a coach could give them.
Can a coach fix the psychology of a team? Because I’m convinced this is mental – a perfect storm of a roster. Very talented but not built with much resilience. KA is likely part of the problem. But I’m not sure any coach is fixing this. 😔
